13. Emperor Bao Dai (1926-1945)

Emperor Bao Dai’s real name is Nguyen Phuc Vinh Thuy, his nickname is Thien. He is the only son of Emperor Khai Dinh and madam Hoang Thi Cuc (Queen Tu Cung). He was born onSeptember 23 of the lunar year of Quy Suu (October 22nd 1913 solar calendar).

At the age of ten, Prince Vinh Thuy was sent to France to study. After his father's death, he returned to Hue and came to the throne with the title Bao Dai on January 8th 1926. After that, he returned back to France to study until September 8th 1932.

He was on the throne for 20 years until his abdication on August 30th 1945. At Ngo Mon Gate, with the witness of thoudsans of people, he handed over his authority to the Provisional Revolutionary Government.

After his authority ended, Bao Dai traveled to France and spent the rest of his life there. He died on August 1st 1997 in France.

Emperor Bao Dai was the last emperor of Nguyen dynasty. He had 5 children (2 sons and 3 girls). Additionally, he also had 7 children with other wives after abdication.
