The Heritage and the sustainable development

That was the theme of the conference organized by AIMF started on May 21, 2015 at Hue City. The conference included approximately 100 domestic and international participants, who are representatives of such cities as Kyoto (Japan), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Luang Prabang (Laos), and so on. The conference aimed at finding solutions for the heritage preservation that has been challenged by the negative impacts


AIMF was founded in 1979 as a forum consisting of leaders of different capitals as well as cities speaking French. Nowadays, AIMF includes 166 members from 46 countries and regions worldwide. Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City belong to AIMF.

In the welcome remark of the conference, Mr. Pierre Baillet, the permanent secretary of AIMF confirmed that AIMF paid concerns globally in the urban heritage hoping that the heritage could be connected to the culture and the urban development; and that the AIMF could reinforce the relationship among the urban using French in the Southeast Asia, connect the other dynamic Asian cities in the interaction on the sustainable development od heritage and urban.

Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, the director of Hue Monuments Conservation Centre (HMCC) was invited to deliver the speech on the "Hue heritage with the sustainable development and heritage enhancement", in which he focused on introducing the Outstanding Universal Values of the Complex of Hue Monuments-the World Heritage, summarizing the period of overcoming the "emergency" of Hue heritage so that Hue could be integrated in the mutual situation and become an attractive destination among Vietnam's heritage sites. He also mentioned matters concerning a City of Heritage such as challenges in the heritage preservation and restoration, suggestions on the plans as well as solutions for the enhancement of heritage connecting to the public benefits for the sustainable development, active confrontation with the climate change, cooperation reinforcement, encourage the creativeness in the integration and development of a World Heritage Urban.

During 3 days, (May 21-23, 2015), the conference focused on the 3 themes namely urban heritage, heritage and climate change, and the heritage on the technical creativeness and society.
