Truong Sanh Residence

Truong Sanh Residence is a closed architectural complex at the Northwest of Hue Imperial City. At first, the residience was called Truong Ninh Resdience. It was constructed at the second year of Emperor Minh Mang’s reign (1821) in style of a royal garden for the emperor’s refreshment.
In 1846, under the reign of emperor Thieu Tri, the residence was greatly restored in size and architectural style. Some constructions of the complex were renamed then. In the middle of the complex, different constructions are connected in 王 shaped. The first temple called “Ngu Dai Dong Duong”, the middle one named Tho Khang, and the back pavilion named Van Phuc are connected in a long corridor system. In front of Ngu Dai Dong Duong Temple is the Phuong Mon Gate, at back of Van Phúc Pavilion í the rockeries named Bao Son, Kinh Ngu, Ho Ton. At this area, there is a moat named Dao Nguyen, at the left and right of which, there are red bridges. From the reign of Emperor Dong Khanh, Truong Ninh Garden became the accommodation of the Great Grand Empress (emperor’s paternal grandmother) as well as empresses after the emperor passed away. Until the reign of Emperor Khai Dinh, in 1923, as the preparation of the emperor’s 40th birth anniversary, Truong Ninh Residence was completely restored, and renamed Truong Sanh Residence, without any change in functions. With wars, Truong Sanh Residence was severely degraded. During 2005-2007, it was restored again to reach its original beauty as we can see today.
