“Xam huong”
Playing “Xam huong” game is to throw dices so that players can take slabs carved with red Chinese characters in corresponding to degrees of a former examination system (namely Bachelor, Master, Doctor, the First doctoral laureate of the Metropolitan examination, the Third, Second and First doctoral laureates of the first rank of the Royal examination).

“Huong” means “Hong” (“pink” in the pink color of the fourth face on a dice). As “Hong” word was included in the name Hong Nham of emperor Tu Duc, therefore it was taboo. As a result, instead of using “Hong”, “Huong” was a replaceable word. After the reign of emperor Tu Duc, sets of the tou-hu and “Xam huong” games have still been preserved at Hoa Khiem temple.
A set of slabs for Xam huong game consists of 63 ones divided into 6 types for 32 scores each. The total scores of all slabs is 192. At the end of the game, the winner will be the one who gains the highest number of total scores of the slabs.

Presently, this game is organized on the first day of lunar New Year in Hue royal palace and from April 22, 2017, tourists can experience this game in the "Royal Palace by Night" program every evening.
