Hue Royal Traditional Theatre

Duyet Thi Duong Treatre

On the decision, issued in April 1st 2006, by the People’s Committee of Thừa Thiên - Huế Province, Traditional Royal Theatre and Huế Traditional Art Troop were merged into The Theatre Of Huế Traditional And Royal Art put under the authority of Huế Monuments Conservation Centre. It works to preserve and promote genres of  Huế royal art such as Nhã Nhạc, Royal Dance and Tuồng ( Traditional Theatrical Drama ). In particular, Nhã Nhạc was proclaimed by UNESCO as A Masterpiece Of The Oral And Intangible Heritage Of Humanity on November 11st 2003.

For many years, the theatre has collected, choreographed and performed some 40 ritual music pieces, some typical dances ( Lục Cúng Hoa Đăng - Lantern Dance, Nữ Tướng Xuất Quân - Women Generals Go Into Battle, Lân Mẫu Xuất Lân Nhi - A Unicorn Gives Birth To Its Child ) and extracts of Tuồng plays ( Sơn Hậu, Tam Nữ Đồ Vương, Quần Phương Tập Khánh ) to contribute to safeguarding and revitalizing royal art values. For the purpose of  expanding the royal art, the  theater has also performed at domestic and overseas festivals, recorded many achievements and won many prizes :

Award-winning Tuồng plays: “ Sóng Ngầm Trong Phủ Chúa “ ( The Undertow In A Lord’s  Palace ) - a gold medal, “ Chim Bằng Trong Bảo Tố “ ( The Eagle In The Gale ) - a silver medal, “ Tướng Quân Bùi Viện “ ( General Bùi Viện ) - a silver medal, “ Nỗi Đau Người Chủ Soái “  ( The Pangs Of A Commander-in-chief ) - C Prize, “ Người Khởi Nghiệp Đàng Trong “  ( The Initiator In Cochin China, The South of Vietnam ) - C Prize
- Tuồng play  “ Trái Tim Người Nghệ Sĩ “ ( An Artist’s Heart ) was performed in the first international experiment stage festival in Hà Nội.
- Royal dance: Special Prize in 1995
- Nhã Nhạc piece:  “ Tam Luân Cửu Chuyển “  ( Three Wheels And Nine Variations ) : Silver Lotus Prize in 1997 and medallists in national festivals.

Human resource: a management ( the theatre’s manager and 2 vice-directors ) and a staff of 154 working in 3 Troops Of Art, Researching And Training
Department and Bureau Of Administration.

    - A Labour Medal 3rd Class awarded by the Vietnamese government.
    - Certificate Of Merit for art activities performed in political events, annual and Tet holidays, Huế festivals presented by the Vietnamese government, Ministry Of Culture And Information, People’s Committee of Thừa Thiên - Huế Province.
